Posted November 17, 2018 05:23:37 When did the Australian Government stop making its own cat-litter?
The Government says it is no longer making its cat litter.
It’s been more than 10 years since the last cat litter was made.
Now the National Parks and Wildlife Service says it’s time for a change.
“We’ve made it very clear to the industry that the Government of Australia doesn’t need to make its own litter,” said Dr Jennifer Poon, the National Park Service’s senior adviser for litter.
“The Government of the day, the Government has always had the responsibility for cat litter and it has been our responsibility for making sure it’s being made in Australia.”
Cat litter has been made in Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia.
However, Victoria’s cat owners have been unhappy.
In the Victorian parliament, Victoria-based animal welfare activist Tim Dyer, whose family has a cat, said the Government had failed to deliver on its commitment to the litter industry.
“I think it’s been quite a frustrating time for the cat owners of Victoria, as it’s all been so, so bad,” he said.
“It’s not good for the environment, it’s not a good look for the state of Victoria and we’re certainly not going to get any sort of a benefit out of it.”
Victoria’s cat-lovers are demanding changes to the cat litter laws, and the government has been asked to come up with a plan to address their concerns.
The NSW Government says the Cat litter Industry Association is looking at ways to reduce litter production.
