When the family of four first heard about Kroger’s cat litter craze, they were confused.
How could you put cats on a shelf?
Why would someone want to do that?
But the family, and the store, quickly realized that the litter was an easy, effective, and cost-effective way to keep cats away from their kids.
“Kroger had the cat litter for kids, and they were so thrilled with it,” said Kristin Miller, owner of Petville.
“We thought we were just going to have to go to the store and get the cat, but that didn’t happen.”
The Kroger cat cat litter revolutionized cat litter sales.
Since the company began selling cat litter in 2003, sales have more than doubled.
Now the company has sold nearly 6.6 million tons of cat litter nationwide.
It all started with an accidental discovery.
In 2009, Kristin and her husband, Joe, noticed that their cat was litter-free.
“He would come into the room and it would be in the corner,” Kristin recalled.
“I said, ‘You know, you’re not getting any cat food,’ but I would get him some food.
And it was like a little bit of a miracle.”
So the couple started looking for cat food.
They found a local pet store that sells cat food, but didn’t know where to look.
They discovered Catastrophe Cat Food, a company that sells litter made from leftover food from Kroger.
Kristin was inspired to start making cat litter.
The idea caught on with her family, too, and she said she never even thought about putting cats on the shelves again.
The family, including Kristin, bought a crate and began putting cat litter on the floor of their house.
They also began taking the cat outside to play.
They noticed that cats would stop running when they were out of the litter.
And, Kristina said, “we had no idea it was going to be such a huge success.”
Krogers cat litter is made of 100 percent recycled materials.
In the past year, the company reported sales of $3.4 billion and has more than 2,500 stores across the country.
The company also launched an initiative called Cat Nation, which is helping communities around the world clean up their cat litter by putting it in cat cafeterias, cat play areas, and dog parks.
“It’s like a great, big, green solution,” Kristina explained.
Kroggs cat litter has been a huge hit with kids, especially the youngest children.
The family said they’ve seen a positive change in their cat’s behavior, and their children are excited about the product.
“There’s something about having something to put them in, that’s so exciting,” Kristy Miller said.
“They don’t know what to expect, and that’s really the fun thing about this.”
